Geez, people playing SW BS over streaming🤦‍♂️

We should all be united on this crap and hope they all fail with it. If this goes great, the next thing you know your console will become an app on your tv that you click on to stream games from.

Yep, this is what actually scares me most when it comes to gaming.

if streaming eventually becomes good enough, what's the harm?.. apparently the GeForce service is already beating native hardware in terms of performance..

if that level of quality eventually becomes the standard, why is it a "bad thing" that people can just click an app instead of spending $500+ on a console?..

Because the world is becoming a rent everything and own nothing future. There are plenty of places around the world where the internet still isn't up to standard and won't work.

And because a console is a personal item that you appreciate because you went out and bought it, an app on a tv is so sterile, much like Steam, just an app on your PC. Then you will have a SINGLE digital marketplace to get your games from for your Xbox, and one to get your games from on PS, and when there is one place only that creates a monopoly and allows Sony/MS to keep prices high because there is no competing place to get games from.

You need to look into the future and look at the possibilities of where it can go, and its not good.

Yeah, this shit is what Sony/MS would want as they don't need to spend money on hardware, and you will be stuck on their marketplaces as the ONLY place to buy games. That's a monopoly that no gamer should want.

I'm rooting for this technology, but it still feels like it were polishing a turd here... Good on Sony for making a more stable offering. Call me when they're both closer to 1:1 quality.

@TheEroica: You're cheering for an all digital future and a single market place for each platform to "purchase" and stream your games from?

Doesn't sound like a very friendly place for consumers, sound like a monopoly to me.

Okay, so now the history of the PS streaming service in a nutshell. Sony bought Gaikai a pre baked service and developed that into PS Now. It was a much easier job.

MS built their service from scratch and was still in beta the last time I checked.

No one claimed or expected the Xbox Cloud service to be as good as PlayStations yet. It has incrementally improved over the last couple of years. It still has quite a way to go. It's not finished.

Wtf are you blabbering about? MS is a two trillion dollar company and they are getting their ass kicked by a company worth 20x less in an industry they were supposed to dominate.

Interesting. I don't see this fanboy side of you come out often. What's got you triggered today?

See this is the thing lots of people don't understand, I'm not a blind fanboy. I can look at things objectively. For someone who couldn't give two shits about streaming this is an area Microsoft should be dominating in. I personally hope streaming becomes nothing more then an optional alternative.

With Xbox's 3+ years at it from scratch, in more countries vs PlayStation's 10 years plus, from a specialist company they bought, in less countries? :-S

Xbox could well have done better. I'm saying I think their problem is more that they've spread themselves too wide (28 countries), too quickly. Where as PlayStation started off one region at a time.

I'm rooting for accessibility and convenience. I don't mind if competing digital storefronts are competing for my dollar... No difference between that and what they're doing right now competing for my hardware dollar. I don't actually think all digital will be a thing. People are still consuming vinyl records... They're enthusiasts who like physical media... Always will be I think. For me, and the way I consume games I just don't need a physical game, but I'd like tk be able to tap into what the cloud can provide if the performance meets expectations.

@TheEroica: You don't think an all digital future will be a thing, um hello PC has been there for a LONG time.

The problem is on console it's the worst of all options, and digital is outpacing physical atm, and the gap is widening.

That's a bad problem for console gamers. See, there is already a lawsuit against Sony for stopping stores selling digital game codes because Sony wants its marketplace to be the only show in town and that way they make the most profit. It will be interesting to see the outcome of that court case.

That's what will happen when gaming goes all digital on console. It will create a monopoly and gamers are too dumb to look into what the future holds for an all digital games console, and from there they will delete the console altogether and it will just be an app where you stream games on your TV, and with no competing store fronts, both Sony and MS create a monopoly and thus have no incentive to lower game prices.

During the MS court case to buy Craptivision we found out that MS is planning to release an all digital Series X revision. So yeah we're hurtling towards an all digital future at a rapid rate.

I will be one of the first to tap out of modern gaming when that happens.

a viable streaming option is just that: optional..

if someone wants a console, they'll still be able to buy one..

@Antwan3K: You're just being short sighted. If MS/Sony etc can get it working properly, the next logical step is an app on your TV to stream games from.

From there it's a slippery slope downwards.

Is this a fallacy as if it will happen and there is no other possible outcome, especially one that is more favorable to consumers?

There are already apps on TVs for streaming.. It's an option..

And if (eventually) streaming quality becomes comparable to native hardware for the average consumer, that's a good option for those that don't want to spend $500+ on a console..

And consoles would remain an option for those who prefer native hardware..

You're literally arguing against more options..

@Antwan3K: Again, you didn't.

I'm simply talking about where it will possibly (and most likely) lead to in the future, which will most likely lead to less options for the consumer.

Now I'm done here because it's going around in circles.

If streaming was to become a viable option, that's more options for consuming gaming content..
