https://www.eurogamer.net/helldivers-2-steam-players-will-soon-need-to-link-a-psn-account-and-they-arent-happy

By June all accounts have to be linked.

Shouldn't be a problem for all the cows playing on PC.

But what do others think?

Seems a bit of a stupid move to me.

not if all the servers are connected to sony servers at there location. they going to go out and buy new servers just for steam players? just like xbox games are connected to xbox servers. nin games are connected to nin servers. helldivers is a sony published game. not first party but they did give them money to develop it.

Oh snap, Sony is doing this chance right before launching on Xbox. Coincidence? I think not.

@gifford38: not sure what you mean.

There is currently gamers on both PC and PS. So why would they have to change anything for server space. Especially as the numbers are reducing.

My issue is they should have done it at the start.

Have you even attempted to answer the question or feedback on what they are doing?

Make your own thread if you want to discuss how I'm feeling I'd happily discuss it in that.

@hardwenzen: you 100% can read my mind to determine if I'm fuming?

Like I said if u want to know how I feel about it just create your own thread and ask me. I find it strange you really want to know how I feel about a game. But I'll reply if u ask.

If you cannot be respectful and stay on topic that's OK. I'll just do what I do with the kids.

it's very easy to make an account to any region tho, and the disclaimer of psn account requirement has been on the steam page since launch, they just didn't enable it at launch due to some issue...

It seems like the other Origin and Activision and Ubisoft and Xbox and Battle.net and account stuff that goes on with games in general on all platforms. Some people seem to want to resist having to create other accounts but they do it anyway. Is it because of having to remember more account details? If consoles start getting alternate storefronts then I expect this will become even more common.

not a big deal, many (if not all) Xbox titles on Steam have to be linked to an Xbox account in order to do multiplayer..

it'll definitely make cross-play a lot easier..

Already have mine linked since it was part of the initial setup. Not really a big deal, the account is free and quick to setup.

Might be dumb question but, how does one buy super credits on PC? Is it through PSN?

If so, it makes sense that they require you to log into PSN.

That being said, it sucks that you'll have to go through some nonsense setup if you are in a country that doesn't support PSN. Do you sign up in neighboring country and then use PSN cards?

It sounds like they shouldn't have sold you the game if you couldn't make a PSN account in your region.

Bloody hell, I can't remember my PSN password. Anyone know what it is by any chance? :P

Anywho, in the med to long term I think there is a very real chance that Sony will release a PC store and they will only sell the PC versions of their games through that store (as well as 3rd party games, possibly with some exclusives like FF due to their long relationship with Square). I can definitely seem them trying to compete with Steam.

But in Isolation this is a very minor inconvenience. What's another account to Sign into? I wonder if Valve will implement a feature for steam where you can also add your EA/Ubisoft/Xbox/Sony account to Steam then it can just use that info to log you into the relevant services depending on what you are playing. It'd be a nice quality of life feature.

@osan0: It seems like the way things are going. Every content publisher on video streaming took their own content and put it under their own service with their own branding. The same could be happening with gaming.

Some gamers want to have everything on a single platform, but what may end up happening is they will have to use multiple platforms in a sense to get this, each with their own feature set and each with their own terms and agreements, promotions, and services/subscriptions.

There's a steam store that you get linked to on PC. I'd imagine it's the same for PSN. I don't think you are going to buy SCs using PSN on Steam.

All transactions have to go through Steam. So even if you're on your EA account or Ubisoft account or whatever: it brings up the Steam store, transaction goes through there.

I think they are testing the waters for a Playstation storefront on PC.

You hear endless waves of people on PC bitching about this saying they will un install. If Sony should learn anything from this they should learn PC gamers give two shits about the Playstation brand and devaluing your console to chase a platform you will have little success on is a dumb move.

The big problem as I see it isn't so much the annoying forced new account, it's is that the game was available in countries where Playstation isn't operating so a lot of people who could play can't play anymore.

I hope this bites them in the ass.

Sigh... PC players complaint about the most ridiculous things; I had to create an xbox account to play Age of Empires 2 with my friends, is a minor annoyance that we should all be accustomed by now.

Back in its day i tried to use it, to play Age of Empires 3 if I remember correctly, never made it work, heard that later it was better or less worse in this case; but by the time there was no reason to use it.

But find me an industry where the consumers are the ones calling the shots. Gamers aren’t revolting against anything. We’ve seen their “boycotts“ in the past. A boycott relies on folks to spend money on what they want. Gamers think holding onto their cash is going to make a difference, when the suits just pivot to where the money is being made.

Nintendo being “behind the times” will be the reasons we still get a variety in games and experiences from them. They will rely on exclusive game sales to push hardware sales and improve attach rates. Meaning they will have to try harder to innovate and appeal to gamers. While the other two will just make what investors tell them to make, with a couple indies sprinkled in here and there.

Gamers definitely band together to reject trends we hate.... Battlefront 2, Suicide Squad, the upcoming star wars outlaws is about to bomb hard.... All based on trends gamers reject and discuss...

I imagine Nintendo will still operate how they always have and that's fine... If they're producing decent games people will buy. I will too! I still maintain that if these companies release more and more samezy, vanilla, diminishing return nothingburger games and sequels they won't survive.... Their investors will see they are producing nothing new and it'll be end game.

Aw, I think it would be hilarious if Sony tried to launch their own store on the PC.

They'd have one new game every 6-12 months. You could pre-order games when they're announced, and then gamble on whether the game will actually release before the storefront dies.

I'm kind of over being outraged at this point.

But I will ask this: why?

Why, Sony? Why do you need this? Game was doing juuuuuuuuust fine without it.

Was it more successful than you had estimated it would be? Do you feel like you're missing out on data harvesting and selling the metrics to third parties?

What's in it for the consumer? Anything? Why should I link my account?

Also what are you doing for the parts of the world where people don't have access to PSN because you deem them not profitable enough to harvest their data? Yes folks, people in certain parts of the world are so poor or so...whatever...that Sony can't be bothered to allow them to create a PSN account. So good luck playing with your friends in, idunno, poor parts of Oceana or Africa.

Simple. They want to bundle PC gamers with PS gamers. It would then allow them to use it as a positive metric under one umbrella.🙃

Tanking user reviews is gonna accomplish what? They all already bought the game and have made it the most played game of the year. It's BY FAR the best selling game of the year. Dropping a negative Steam review between rounds might make them feel a little better but the damage is done

@ghostofgolden: Tanking the user reviews will hurt future sales, and drag Sony into the media spotlight. It also helps create a bandwagon for people to irrationally hate Sony, and if there's one thing online communities love, it's jumping full-force onto a bandwagon.

This will also result in a bunch of refund requests, I'm sure. Probably not massive numbers, but that will also have an effect on Sony.
