Xbox has pulled out all the stops. They really went all in this year. Their results are kinda puzzling. I saw this post on Era and it really made me think. They basically said that the Game Pass content is aimed at the niche "hardcore" market of consumers that plays many hours of video games a week. And that's not how the majority of consumers play video games and those games don't align with mass appeal.

Did Xbox just spend $100 Billion trying to cater to a niche market? Because despite all their reach with adding PC and streaming, their numbers and growth are almost entirely tied to the consoles performance. Dont believe me? What does Windows Central's Jez Corden think?

We've seen nothing after 6+ years of data to tell us otherwise. Xbox is opening their doors to the world, welcoming every person that enjoys video games. But folks are showing us through market performance that they would rather spend their money elsewhere. Value be damned. I think having sympathy for a video game company is silly, but you gotta feel kinda bad for Phil and Co here. They are doing EVERYTHING to grow the brand and consumers continue to dismiss them outside of their core audience.

The inks hardly dry on the largest acquisition in VG history so where's the positive results already?

@ghostofgolden: that's always been my thing about GamePass. in order to get the most out of it, you would have to play a lot and it would have to have the games you really want to play. but most people don't play that many games in a year, and they want to play at their own pace. otherwise you're just renting the game.

How many games a year can you buy for the price of GP for year? Maybe three?

That's hardly needing to play a lot of games a year to make GP worth it. lol :P

This is quite a simple argument to debunk 😎

• GamePass doesn't have most games.
• When a game does come out, and the person is interested in buying it, they will determine at what price point they will pay for it.
• If they don't want to pay $70, they'll wait for $30. For $30 they can play the game whenever they want at their own leisure.

If said person had GamePass, they would need to first see if it's available on GamePass. If it is, they will pay $16.99 to have access to it for one month. If they don't finish the game, or want to continue to play the game, they will either have to pay for another month or just buy the game.

• If they decide to buy the game, they've spent $16.99 plus the price of the game.
• Let's say they had GamePass for 2 months, then that's $34. That is more than what they were willing to pay for the game to begin with. And then if they decided to buy the game, that's $34 + the price of the game.

Now I already know what silly counter argument you're going to make. "but but, they can play other games".. Do you really think this person has time to play so many games? No, they want to play the game that they want at that moment.
