We got a new leader and new officers. I thought it would do us justice to update this thread and archive the old. MrStarkiller will be the main updater of the first post here. But if you need an update let any officer know and we'll take care of it.

-The tags associated with being a "TUGOWU Speedrun veteran","TUGOWU NUR veteran"and "TUGOWU Speedrun/NUR veteran" require that you have completed those runs with success. If you only have "pending" and/or "timed out" runs for Speedrun/NUR you are not awarded these tags.The Leader will administer punishment for offenders of this rule.

Brief Definition

[spoiler] No Upgrade Run (NUR): Going through the game without using experience/leveling your weapons/spells

No Upgrade Run Plus (NUR+): Same as NUR, but you also cannot upgrade Health/Magic

General Kratos:Titan Mode:NUR (GK:TM:NUR): In GoWII Bonus Play, use General Kratos in a Titan Mode NUR. No urns!

No Replenishment Run (NRR): Play through without using HP/MP (or Rage *GoWII*) chests

No Extension Run (NER): Play through without leveling HP/MP bar

No Chest Run (NCR): Play through without opening any chests for anything

No Grab Run (NGR): No OS, air OS or OH.

No Grab Run Plus (NGR+): NGR conditions, No HC (GoS), No CG (GoWIII), No False OS and no reversals that harm foes.

No Block Run (NBR): No blocking. *untested*

No Block Run Plus (NBR+): No blocking or parrying. *untested*

PAIN: NUR+ conditions, NCR conditions, No subs/Blades ONLY, No Rage and No magic spending

NOTE: GoW1 ties parrys and Rage into the Blades so with lvl1 Blades you are forced in "+" conditions. Thus only one run type.

PAIN plus (PAIN+): PAIN conditions. "No Rage" is now "No Relics (combat usage)"

NOTE: There are exceptions throughout these runs where you are forced to break rules to continue (design)

GKPAIN: PAIN conditons. General Kratos. "NUR+ conditons" reduced to "NUR conditions"

Recognized Run Types

NOTE: Only "Very Hard" runs are accepted into the list as of 03/09/11 *official updated*. All non-VH runs are removed from an individual's record. Thus, there is no need to mention the difficulty of a run any longer.

NOTE2: Default Costumes only. Exception for some GK runs.

NOTE3: No urns, possessions, major glitches, etc. are allowed. Skipping optional fights is frowned upon, but allowed.

NOTE: I've decided, for now, to create the pending list (not the extra runs) and to refine the list of completed runs down to best runs done for each entry with GK being seperate from default.

NOTE2: Any vets (gent, Franchise, findlestick, etc.) that have runs that are finished, pending elsewhere, etc., please tell me so.

The sister topic to this is at the gow3forums. Hopefully those runners can be added to this list (should they join TUGOWU). I'd very much like to add them to the list, but cannot do so knowing they aren't TUGOWU members just yet (same as with ballofsnow regarding the Speedrun topic). V1 can be found here.

NOTE: I'm giving 'spoiler tags' a try here merely to condense things and see how it looks.

NOTE: I could use spoiler tags here and there to make it even shorter while also sort of highlighting various 'lists'.  That might help just a bit with presentation.  Thoughts?

Indeed things are prettying up well enough, but to what end?  Time will tell.  I'm just quite concerned with the handling of GoW:A.  They've shaken my confidence in them quite a bit.  Handheld entries were from other teams, but now they have no excuses.  This is even a primary console (one they've worked with before no less).  This should be the GoWII to GoWIII and yet here we are...

As for something relevant to this thread, GoW:A might not have a PAIN+ (like GoW1).  We might have to make the conditions 'no relics' from the start and just call it "PAIN" with perhaps a "*" if you suffer through avoiding any damage taking/dealing while rage automatically activates (if there isn't some way to disable it through options, urns/possessions, costumes, etc.).  Throw us a damn bone here, Santa Monica.  We're the loyal fans and you're making appeals to non-fans still?  Blasphemy.  Madness.

And the issue with violence against females?  HERESY.

We'll "playtest" that.  If I understand right, SP will NOT have secondary/sub-weapons.  Just World Weapons.  So Blades ONLY is the default (rather than a choice).  We were going to take away WW for PAIN anyway, so there's that...

Dead Space's "Hard Core", NG3's "Ultimate Ninja", etc.  In that vain, I'm sure.  It can be one of those if they attach a trophy to it (so casuals are made to suffer).

That's if the mode' is a difficulty setting rather than some "Extra" (Arena and Challenges).  Perhaps survival mode (until you die), a guantlet of foes *waves as in 'horde' for Gears*, time attack, etc.  But then, I'm probably giving them too much credit.

They better have the traditional (since GoWII) VH with all the right percentiles: 75% Power, 20% Armor, 25% orb worth, 75% EXP orb worth and much quicker foe recovery/higher aggression.

I've already noted ideas for a VVH (with simple changes to percentiles *halving them*, special conditions, etc.).  I don't want to see magic scale with Power %, enemy grabs scale with Armor %, grab targetting issues, off-screen attacks, enemies using stun locks, evade i-frame priority negation, false grabs from foes *Skorpius*, unskippable cutscenes, etc.

I lke the idea of Nightmare Mode. Die once and all progress is lost.

I really hate the auto leveling. I level up which makes my enemies level up. I am using a level 1 scythe and level 1 hammer only. No advanced moves or magic of any kind. level 1 weapons against level 14 enemies takes waaay too long.

Got two more worlds to claim victory over this mode.

Oh, boy.  Perhaps they should have saved this for some combat arena set-up rather than the general world where one should be able to rise to a challenge through the over-leveling means so loved by many.

Delightful.  And it only gets better.  Ring-outs would help, I suppose.  Items should too.  I just can't recall how the game works with either.

^^I do wish more games would include an option to turn off EXP gain. Heck, even Kingdom Hearts 2 figured this out and they're as casual as it gets.

And you forgot my Chalice on GoW3!! PAIN+ is a joke compared to that.

It opens up too much to just simply 'do'.  We need to discuss the matter at length regarding what costumes, settings, weapons, etc. constitute things we're willing to honor here.

Such symbols for shorthand won't work.  We need better shorthand.  Even then, we've long since made the effort ot remove lower settings, non-default costume cases (other than GK), non-default weapon focused runs, lesser runs (Ex: NER), etc. from the list.  We don't get anymore Ares Armor Artemis focused Easy NER cases as such to pollute the list.

I'd almost want a seperate section for such things to keep the primary list of finished runs 'pure'.

Maybe.  Maybe not.  I've done Apollo PAIN+ w/ Chalice and many more challenges (PAIN+ with each weapon, sometimes with other costumes, etc.).  Not every run is as hard as the last and sometimes they're easier than vanilla.  It varies.  There is a reason we've put off this discussion for so long.

We would need a way to denote it.  Being that "*" means different things in different entries, one could use that, but then we sort of mention that clearing Skorpius without Cestus needd for Spawn in P1s or the face in P2 would be argued as such a case (rather than just an exception).  Dialogues for the matter were never held and so it has been pushed back until now.

And again, I'd like to insist on purity in the main list.  An extra list for silly s*** like this (even if it offers a challenge), alternative costumes, lower settings, etc. would be preferred to house such things as a whole.

I see no problem with adding "Chalice" to NUR+ and PAIN variants.

Doing so detracts from the purity of the runs but some people like a little extra spice.

The whole point of the Chalice being included in Apollo runs was to negate the improved armour and create a pseudo-challenge costume. Even then it isn't quite OHK territory.

Sometimes it is important to keep to purity and resist change.  The best I'm currently willing to offer is a seperate list allowing for a host of 'lesser' runs.  Of course, lesser not describing Apollo PAIN+ w/ Chalice, but neither would 'unrecognized' (as the very act of noting them defies this).  Perhaps non-traditional versus traditional would cover it.

But then, shall we be allowing just anything using the noted challenges so long as there aren't major exploits/skips/glitches?  Be it a non-default costume, non-VH setting, Chalice (the only acceptable Possession *not unlike GK among costumes*),or non-NUR/NUR+, non-PAIN/PAIN+ challenge runs.  Such a list (unless further 'divided' among more sections) would allow for 'GoW E NER (DB)' (God of War 1 Easy No Extension Run Dairy Bastard).

In the main list, your HIGHEST run for an entry is all that is listed (not all the lesser versions of it if ever done at all *not always so*).  This unless the run is still pending or it is a special case like NUR* (clearing clones) versus PAIN (cleared without clones) or GKPAIN+ along with the PAIN+. Aside from the example run noted, we would also have to list a run with a slight change such as 'GoW E NER (God)' *God Armor*.

If that same run was done on VH, I suppose the priority rule might come into play (leading to it being overwritten in records) or would we just keep all of them?  Obviously we would have to also list it if the run were amended as with 'GoW N NCR (God)'.  What if the runner wants to tag on special conditions like 'no magic' that are otherwise not denoted unless the run requires it?

Truth is I'm about quarter of a way through writing a full walkthrough for SW:FU2 NUR+. There's only one up on GFGAQs at present and it is as vague as hell. Sorted tactics out on the hard run, which I had to do to have access to VH without upgrades/extensions.

 It would be nice to get someone on board to give their version for NFR...

I bet it would be.  I have it, as noted before, but haven't felt the urge to play it.  I'd at least have to do this Apollo themed run first and even then, my work could distract from that.  I need time to get on stable footing with the changes to my routine.
