I already gave up on stacks months ago and in the process of doing so I found a bug...

I can't remove ALL the games from my stacks. If I try to remove the last game and I hit save I get a friendly message telling me it is empty, and it does not save. Effectively, I can't "clear" my stacks.

So if anyone is wondering why the only game I own is Daikatana, and the only game I want is Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.... now you know...

After searching, gamefaqs is the new site to use for managing your collection. MUCH better than stacks, and might even be better than the old gamespot lists. Can even link back to reviews on gamespot. A search on Alexa will show you clearly that as gamespot's redesign has obliterated their internet traffic, gamefaqs' traffic has begun to rise dramatically starting at the same date.

Tip : put your stacks in "edit" mode and as you put them into gamefaqs, remove one at a time from gamespot. Save the gamespot list periodically as you empty the stack, because its buggy, and certain actions can cause the save to fail. Convert to an "unordered list" before you start to save headache.

Good luck!

I've been using Gamefags as a total replacement for what I was previously using the old Gamespot for, and in that time I feel like I've fully adjusted through the learning curve to the point that I can say it's filling 95% of the need I have for such a system.

My only two gripes are the messy mobile layout (when viewed on my phone) and the lack of ability to do more robust filtering and sorting across all types of lists. Other than that, I'm 100% migrated and more than happy with it.

The only thing I use Gamespot for now is to ping game review scores (Don't even read the reviews anymore) and to check on these old posts about the Stacks system. Hell, I even dropped it off all my bookmarks/feeds etc.

It looks like the games that used to be under My Collection are now in the "feed". Does anyone have any idea where the hell that is? I can't find it.

yours: http://www.gamespot.com/profile/hawkai/following/?filter=objects

Assuming just a name change in the URL would pull up mine...

I see only two things in there. My old "My Collection" list had over 1800. At least the two things shown are indeed games that I own. So that's something I suppose.

The one good thing I've found about stacks so far is that you can easily and quickly remove games from them.

So if you're rebuilding your wishlist on another site, for example, it's easy to remove them one by one as you add them to whatever other system you are using... *COUGH* GameFAQS *COUGH*.

@Bgrngod: My Collection has vanished for me, too! It was the only place that I used to track games. I hope they restore it soon!

They most definitely will not restore your collection if it got cleared out during the update. They may change the features around, but if your list is gone, it's most likely gone for good.

BUZZZZZZZZZ

WRONG!

So you're telling me you guys are going to restore the "My owned games" list that we had on the old Gamespot before the update? The other thread you noted restoring the review scores (.5's are in the system), and said nothing about the owned games lists...

I spent a good chunk of my night last night rebuilding my collection list at GameFAQS using their list tool. Worked pretty well using my tablet and standing in front of my game shelves checking off games. Got about 1/4th of it done so far. Rebuilding my wish list is going pretty smoothly as well. Using the Japanese titles that oddly show up in the Gamespot stacks, to do a search in GameFAQS, returns the english titled game 99% of the time.

@chad28_69: LOL

I discovered GameFAQS tracking system yesterday and spent a good chunk of the day rebuilding my wishlist and have LOVED it so far. I came back to this thread specifically to say "Oh man.. i was wrong.. there IS another site" at which point I saw your post and laughed out loud. All this time I've been looking for alternatives, and a great one was RIGHT NEXT DOOR.

I'm really digging it. It looks like it will be a totally complete replacement, with extra features. If Gamespot hadn't nuked their lists with this change, I might still have gone over to GameFAQS if I would have ever learned about it. Having the option to pick which retail release is awesome since I collect a lot of CE's and such.

My joined date says June 15th 2002, but I've been around a lot longer than that. They did a join date reset after doing some kind of website merge that "updated" the join dates for a lot of users. I think I had 2 or 3 years shaved off. Can't remember.

Not sure how much I'll use it now that I'm looking at a Giant Bomb clone for the lists (stacks are ew). The site content has been average quality for a long time, but I continued to use it since it was only a click away from the lists feature I used daily.

@AtheistPreacher:

I've taken up the arduous task of rebuilding my Wish List and Collection list in Google docs via a spreadsheet, and it still isn't a good replacement for how the old Gamespot did it. I had a custom HTML homepage across all my devices that had a list of each system under Want and Own where I could select the system and go right to the appropriate Gamespot list for my profile. The old Gamespot let you control the "filter by system" box via URL switches as well as control sorting lists by URL switches.

Now, I have to open up the google doc, and then depending on which devices I am using I might be able to select a filter in the "Platform" list I have setup. Unfortunately the mobile phone app doesn't allow selecting of filters so it's not even remotely close to what Gamespot provided before.

I'm just completely baffled about why they would choose to go from something that is unique across the entire internet, to something that is identical to what dozens of sites already do. There are NO other sites that I've found that functioned the way the old Gamespot did. And I spent years regularly looking around to see what might be out there. Every time, I always came up empty handed and just stuck with Gamespot since it was superior. Having already given Giant Bomb's lists a try several times over the years and not liking it, I was more than just a little upset to see the old Gamespot lists tossed out only to be replaced by a Giant Bomb clone (naming them Stacks doesn't change it).
