I would never install Origin without a good reason to do so. This is one hell of a good reason. I completely agree that this is more of a "thinly veiled marketing attempt" than a charity move. But this is a Win-Win situation. With 7+ games for $5 bucks, they can market whatever they want. :P

Meanwhile, ~800k bundles sold. Imagine that 50% of these never installed Origin before. Result: ~400k new Origin users. "There's no free lunch" was never truer. EA didn't grab a bite in the revenue of the bundles, but it did keep the good PR and a substantial increase in their user-base.

@Double_Wide The PC is the open platform. That's why 99% of the independent games comes out on PC. Most of these developers doesn't have the money nor the workforce necessary to go through XBLA's and PSN's loops and hoops to publish a small game. On contrary, Steam gives plenty of support for indie devs (just google Project Zomboid). And we still have Wolffire's Humble Bundles, which gives Mac and Linux gamers a chance to play those games...
