@jinzo9988: Yeah i guess ... but some players might buy the game if it leaves game pass. For example, Streets of Rage 4 was a game pass game but then it left game pass and some players might have bought it to keep playing it.

@gleencross: Yeah it is quite expensive to be a Nintendo gamer, game prices never drop..! :) Poor kids. I mean, poor kids who need to spend so much money on games even though they are very young and have very little money to spend.

And it makes the kids poor too. (unless their parents are rich and buy the games for the kids)

For adults i guess 50 or 60 bucks is not a lot if you have a decent job.

@rolento25: it depends on if you prefer 2d mario or 3d mario too i guess.

Switch also has Metroid Dread and Super mario maker 2 which is cool.

But i think Dreams for PS4 is perhaps the best game design software if you are into games which allows for building games.

Also, Switch of course has games like Splatoon 2 and New Pokemon snap. A lot to choose from. The Switch game library is great as long as you accept every game is about 50 or 60 dollars even years after release.

And a lot of Switch games, as great as they are, feel kind of similar to the old Nintendo games. Many Switch games goes way back to the N64 days in terms of the game design concepts. But new and imporved, obviously. (And BotW is a bit more open ended than many 3D Zeldas.)

@boodger: Yeah but with the switch there is access to a bunch of retro games for just 30 or 60 dollars a year with the Switch online plan. NES, SNES, N64 and Mega Drive. So a new switch owner would not start from scratch either.

@tj_rich87: it depends on how you define competition though. If a kid wants either a Switch or a PS5 for a birthday and the parent could only afford one of them, then there is some competition in some way.

(the parent would not find a ps5 anyway so it is a bit hypothetical but the parent might find the xbox series S quite easy and it is priced in the same area as a switch is.)

They still compete for the same audience, the same parents and kids. Or teens or young adults. But with different tech and different software.

@SkiBumMSP: I do not think it is necessary, just a gaming laptop instead with a gamepad is enough for me. Steam Deck seems like a pc only built for games and with a smaller screen. A laptop is my preferred pc gaming thing. It works for other things too. Gaming laptops are quite big and a bit heavy too. So they might not be quite as ideal for portable gaming on a beach for example. But on a train or a bus they are fine.

@777: Yeah i agree. There are exceptions sometimes. Civilization VI was actually first on Switch and then on Xbox and Playstation. (pc was way ahead of any console version)

But usually you pay more to play less or play the same game later on Switch.

For me, Switch is about two things really. Nintendo exclusive games and being able to play games on the go. If the switch version is equal to other versions i might buy the switch game.

Switch games are more rarely on sale too. and when they are on sale they are still kind of expensive. Nintendo sales means a game regularly for 60 bucks is like 43 bucks so it is not a great deal. I picked up the Division 2 for Xbox One for about 4 bucks a month ago. A game which is not even on Switch.

Colecting Switch games means paying about 60 dollars ten times a year for every new 1st party game. Plus some amiibos if you are a "true hardcore nintendo fan". It is quite expensive to like Nintendo. Even the rereleases like Skyward Sword..they sell them for full price too.

@gatsbythepig: just the games for game pass in june alone is quite impressive with assassinĀ“s creed oregon, ninja gaiden games, naraka bladepoint and a few others. A lot of value right there. In july i look forward to a new tennis game and also maybe far cry 5 if i play it. It is not exactly free but the value you get for about ten bucks each month is pretty great. I think we could all agree about how great value for money game pass is for the players. If you get game pass ultimate you also get access to a lot of interesting pc games. Some strategy games for example.
