i agree with you guys, in that as far as OXL quality, you get what you pay for. but what i do not understand is why, even with a GOLD mem, there are still so many additional purchases for this or that. if you total all the costs of things, it can really add up. the free things on XLive are lame; they just are. and i'm sorry, but having access to dozens of reality tv shows isn't exactly making me leap out of my seat. and many of the other downloadable content options, you can get or already have the box sets. just saying....
i will say that i dig Live Arcade, and have found myself playing those games A LOT LATELY. this week it's been Catan, and i'm loving it.
still, i don't think the initial 50 bucks subscription is really worth it by itself. but, as microsoft planned, if you invest more and more, you'll have more to mess with that can make it all worth having. still, i admit i do feel "nickel and dimed" to death. it seems like the whole microtransaction marketplace need more finetuning, because companies can charge you for every little thing they can attach a label onto. just think about how much we're spending on our consoles after about 2 or 3 years... to me it kinda makes the old "360 cheaper than the PS3" argument lose its significance.
i admit, i do want to know more about what the PS3 will offer online for free - for comparrison's sake, and to see where their online ratail media system inserts its own version of microtransactions and the like. the entire online marketplace has global impact on how companies are allowed to distribute their content... so in that sense, when we're talking about not minding this charge or that fee for these experiences, we're telling the companies to keep pushing the limit of what is acceptable for us to spend. and they will...
