@Maroxad: Discussion of fan games and unofficial games is allowed, as long as the discussion doesn't go into distribution of those games where it maybe unlawful to do so. Some of these games (hacked roms and bootlegs) could fall under the emulators and roms section of the CoC, which still maybe talked about but within the guidelines that govern those.

As for modifications (mods) that add things like multiplayer to existing games, there are no specific rules we have around those outside of the general rules of posting (No nude mods ect.)

@birdisdaword: Hi there. The Title Background is actually the banner background on your user page, which you will find at the top of that page and any associated user pages. Your Avatar is the picture that will be used for any posts you make and the User Picture is a image that is only displayed in the information panel on your user page.

I hope this helps and welcome to GameSpot.

@Peazo: Hi there, the upcoming games lists on the front page and on the platform pages is automated to show community interest based on views of the games pages or news on those games.

Rankings for the GameSpot 50 are generated by a proprietary algorithm that measures the interest and engagement in game titles by analyzing the traffic patterns of gamers across the GameSpot Network for the past 30 days. Updated daily at 8am PT.

@ayamkw545: Hi this forum is mainly for moderation related questions. However I will make a exception here.

For the gaming terms-

A mod is a modification of a game created to add or change features of a game, that normally introduces new assets and mechanics or even to make totally new games. These are normally made for single player games, but some (generally non-competitive) multiplayer games do allow them.

A hack is often some kind of cheat or exploit, using either in-game bug or a external tool to gain some kind of advantage you normally wouldn't be able to have. These are normally fine in single player games, and even are used in some types of speedrunning; however they are frowned upon in just about all multiplayer games and could even get you banned from a lot of them.

@antoun11: Hi there. You can delete ratings by going to your profile page and under the Reviews & Ratings tab, you should find a list of all your ratings and should be able to delete them from there.

@Mouchedanldash: I am sorry to say that once a stack is deleted we have no way to recover it.

@ClunkerSlim: Hi there, this forum is mainly for moderation related topics and I am not sure I can answer that 100% correctly. However I think that while there is some crossover of staff, mainly community and technical, each operates fairly independently under Red Ventures.

Hi @fabs1, I am sorry to say that due to the legal grey area around the emulation of games and gaming hardware, we have a blanket rule against discussion of that subject.

You can find out more in the Community Code of Conduct

Can I talk about emulators?

Here are some specific examples of what is, and what is not allowed in discussions regarding emulators:

Allowed: "Discussion of the -concept- of emulation and how it affects the industry, and computer OS (such as Virtual Machines or DOSBox)".

Allowed: "Forms of emulation that are officially endorsed by the copyright holders, such as console backwards compatibility, "classic game packs" sold by companies such as Sega that use emulation to make older console games playable on modern platforms."

Not Allowed: Any console, arcade, and gaming platform emulation discussion (again, except where it's officially endorsed by the copyright owners). This includes asking for help with emulation, endorsing emulation, links to emulation or ROM websites, naming specific emulators, or providing instructions on how to emulate.

Not Allowed: All other forms of emulation discussion not covered above as explicitly allowed.
