After you get used of the initial disgust, the game's plot and puzzles are rewarding.

I played RE7 until a scene in a kitchen with "the family" which is featured in some of the promotional photos of the game, and then I decided to stop playing it, in disgust. A few months later while I was considering to uninstall it from my PC, I gave it a second chance and now that I finished it, I'm glad I did!

This game belongs to the surviving horror genre. You are not G.I. Joe with plasma weapons and unlimited ammo. Instead you are just a "regular" guy who wants to know what happened to his wife who were missing. When you finally get some weapons to defend your self, you find out that your ammunition are scarce and your enemies are scarier than you can imagine.

I really liked some of the puzzles of the game and the narrative that introduces them to you. For example you play a puzzle as another person (not the hero) in a ...VHS tape, getting clues that will help you when you encounter the same (so to speak) puzzle in the actual game.

The graphics are semi-photorealistic but you have to adjust dark enough your monitor or TV to "enjoy" the horror and the scares. Many videos on Youtube I watched after I finished the game were way to bright, and that ruins the atmosphere of the game although it makes it also easier.

A difficult choice at some point of the game might haunt you even after you finish it, and that is proof of a solid plot and game.

Overall: Check some of the screenshots of the game before you play it. If you are not disgusted by them, then go ahead and give it a shot. For me it becomes better and better as you dive into its world. I don't regret playing it. It is a solid experience.
