Yasuke is fairly well-known in Japan, so Japanese gamers aren't shocked like Western gamers. AssCreed is the first Western game to feature Yasuke, but he's already been featured as a samurai in a number of earlier Japanese games.

I am also not really understanding what the hell is he supposed to be in the game? Its one of the two playable characters, but this is an AssCreed game, a game that is centered around bending in, and assassinating your targets. How the **** are you supposed to do that with a 6.8feet black guy in Japan with a fucking mace on his shoulder? Did ubishop wen't full braindead on this one or what?

You don't. He is a combat character that only uses stealth to get an early advantage on his enemies.

The main thing that's disgusting here isn't the racism, in the sense Ubisoft are exploiting black people as is IGN with rage-bait trying to upset teenage boys, this will probably actually sell more because of their black exploitation, and will be hailed as a "woke win", with Assassins' Creed being held up as a game example of something good, rather than a bad game in a bad franchise that was never good.

Game def won't tank. Gamers are dim and buy this slop on a loop.

Except judging by expansions in the past, they are worth the price.

Its an Ubi game, it won't only tank, it will be trolled into the ground. Starfield pre orders were strong as well, and look where it got em... its so bad MS is forced to put their first party on the ps5.

Yes, it doesn't have anywhere near the amount of hype, and Ubishop is being hated on harder than Activision or blizzard. I don't think you comperehend the impact this will have on its live service.

Except its a game from a franchise that sold over 200 million copies.

And all the "hate" for the game is a vocal minority and the preorders are showing this.

I think this game will definitely sell better because of the controversy (which I don't like as a strategy).

But I also don't think the inclusion of a black samurai should be a controversy in the first place. Didn't we have a white samurai in nioh without a controversy?

Absolute gamer moments. Like the AC games were never an alternate twist on historical figures. I doubt Da vinci actually made hidden blades for assassins. So if Yasuke wasn't a "true" weeb what does it matter? It works as an alternate time line where he did become a full blown samurai.

The real problem is them dropping a fire CG trailer (ngl the trailer was hype for me) for your typical overpriced mediocre Ubislop games.

The nioh guy is based on a pretty big deal guy in japan. That important he remembered with statues and memorials in both Japan and UK.

@Pedro: as per others mentioned. Reception to the character is mixed in japan compared to your comparable characters.

According to Ubisoft, they both have different roles:

Naoe is the stealth-oriented ninja assassin.

Yasuke is the combat-oriented samurai warrior.

@sakaixx: It doesn't matter that reception is mixed. Not all characters will be liked by all the audience.

And besides, this character hasn't even been developed yet. So it could be well liked when the games comes out.

They are not claiming this guy is japanese. They are not distorting history. They just took a non japanese and made him the lead of a game set in Japan.

Yasuke is literally in Samurai Warriors 5 and it was made by a Japanese developer. Why is a vote needed now when it wasn't needed then? Mix reception about any character in any game has never been proposed to a vote. So, why are you requesting that a nation vote on this issue?

Well, I'll continue enjoying games that tell a good story with excellent gamplay, and wonderful characters. Sadly, Assassins Creed hasn't fallen into that category for a long time, if they ever did. :3

Basically Naoe seems designed for those who want to play classic Assassin's Creed and Yasuke for those who want more of an action game set in Japan. I'm cool with that.

Actually interested in playing this AC game, first time in a long while.

On Japanese Twitter, most Japanese users are fine with Yasuke as the co-protagonist. Japanese reactions range from saying he's "kakkoii" ("cool") and defending his role in the game to being confused over why so many foreign gaijin are outraged. But yes, there are a minority of Japanese users who are offended (mainly critics of "political correctness"), yet even they're confused over gaijin being more offended than Japanese people.

In the UK, I've never seen any statues of William Adams anywhere and very few Brits knew who he was until Shogun on Netflix (except for historians or Nioh fans).

So in other words, its not an AssCreed game, and just an rpg with the AssCreed name to move copies.

You know what this reminds me off of? Resi 6. When you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one.🤷‍♂️

Seems like they're trying to appease fans of both the classic assassin style (with Naoe) and the new action RPG style (with Yasuke)... But like you said, Capcom tried that before with Resident Evil 6 and that backfired.

Yasuke does have stealth capability and Naoe can fight, just not as well.

I am sure a 6.8" black guy in Japan will be very stealthy, especially while wearing bulky armor and a massive mace on his shoulder. Great stuff tbh. Only At Ubishop.
