Xbox Serious S - the next gen base console - runs CyberPunk 2077 like a boss - prediction, PS5 lite $299 coming soon

If you had a base console last gen and thought it was enough then damn you should consider the upgrade to the next gen base console, the Xbox Serious S. It has ray tracing, it provides 60fps on quite a few games and a lot of times even smoother than the PS5 and Serious X due to the lower resolution. Keep sleeping on this console to your own detriment.

Cows will cry out that it's trash and then forget they said anything once Sony unveils the next gen Playstation 5 base console, PS5 lite.

PC elites will scoff at it until they realize you can play CyberPunk 2077 like a dream for only $299. I have the Serious X and it spanks CP77 and that's without the patch coming next year.

Well, PS5 will have to stop selling out at $500 first. "Serious S" too for that matter. When I go to stores selling this stuff it seems people coming in and asking about availability will take whatever they can get their hands on.

Anyway, I think the Series S looks like a great console for the price. If you don't care about 4k and just want a decent box that still runs games pretty damn well, it's perfect. I'm considering buying one, since it'll basically be my backup gaming machine to my Switch (mainly for Game Pass).

It seems to run Cyberpunk 2077 at the same graphical settings as the Series X "performance mode" but has the frame rate of the Series X's "quality mode." Still playable, certainly, but there are still improvements to to be had with the higher cost hardware.

Ps5 lite isn't happening. So Sony is gonna spend all that time and money to release a console that's only $100 cheaper than digital ps5, and since ps5 games wouldn't just work on that system they would have to pay developers to go back and make patches for the new weaker system. That would be such a hassle and waste of money. Maybe ps6 gets a lite version but not 5.

It doesn't have a disk drive but it has Game Pass Ultimate which is really something. I understand it's not the right console for those who want to have all physical disks. Myself, I moved to all digital a long time ago. I still have some disks laying around but I don't use them. If Microsoft had a program that allows you to trade in disks for the digital version, I would go for that with all my remaining disks.

It's not going to necessarily upset them but they will see the value in a $299 box that runs CP77 solidly and also runs Game Pass Ultimate for $1 for the first 3 months. The value is tremendous.

Not all Hermits have a 3080. There are some who are still playing with the GTX 1060 and other GPUs in that general ballpark. To those guys the Serious S is looking really good.

The Series S is better than people think and I think the average gamer will enjoy it.

Realistically, I don't expect much in the way of Ray Tracing, as RDNA 2 isn't good at that. It's Radeons first go at it. So don't expect good Ray Tracing performance until RDNA 3.

While the storage is small, there's two solutions to this. The short term one is to use an external HDD. You can't play Series specific games from it, but you can store games on there and swap. You can play last gen games from it, and the loading speed from a good HDD is SO fast. I'm using a spare 2TB Western Digital Black I had laying around. Even loading Forza games are really fast

The long term solution is to buy the official storage upgrade. People should note, the main reason it's so expensive, is because Seagate have an exclusive deal for now. But "for now" is important. When others start competing, I bet the price comes down and I bet there'll be different sizes, such as a smaller than 1TB size. So I think things will be interesting in the future.

if you're gaming on a console, go with serious S. You won't be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 4k anyways. The human eye isn't capable of it unless you sit 2ft from your tv. But in that case, you got bigger issues to worry about.

4K and ray tracing are certainly gimmicks useless to all but a few very, very small fringe cases of people sitting 30 inches from a 40 inch screen. For the 99.99999% of gamers, games can be played at lower resolutions with absolutely no perceivable difference in quality. So for that, the Series S may appear to keep up with the Series X in many titles. I think the biggest difference you're going to see is in frame rates. I think the Series S will be the first one to be restricted to 30fps gameplay, especially on more visually demanding titles. But, most of the most visually demanding titles tend to be single player oriented and you could probably enjoy just as well through Xbox cloud gaming.

Makes sense. Why make a less capable machine when the one you have is sold out everywhere and has set sales records?

You could at least brag that it can run a good game.
