I've never gotten the praise for Hulst. Killzone had some ok entries, and Horizon just sucks. Guerrilla is good at graphics and tech, but their games don't have 'it'.

I don't know who the other dude is.

This is probably just the standard list of my favorites, since those are what I judge other games against.

I guess I could pick an aspect that I loved, and then walk through the games that added to that. Like the first competitive game I played was probably Combat, which led to the first Madden on SNES -> Mario kart battle mode -> Street Fighter 2/Mortal Kombat -> Twisted Metal -> Metal Warriors -> Duke Nukem 3D -> GoldenEye -> Winback -> Perfect Dark -> Halo CE. There's way more games that could be in there, but those are the ones that jumped out at me.

@hardwenzen: @DaVillain: I didn't like gow2018 like you guys did, so Ragnarok was dead to me before it was announced, but your version of kratos being resurrected in Egypt would be awesome! I love Egyptian mythology, or there abouts. It blows my mind that more games haven't done something with that. AC did, but I don't like AC, and they took way too long to get there anyway. Lut Gholein in Diablo 2 is my happy place.

@R4gn4r0k: The mixing of properties disgusts me too. Not only is it painful to see some of my favorite things dipped in sh!t, but having one homogeneous lame ass world that smoothes the edges off everything sucks as well. I much prefer having many different worlds, with their own unique feel.

@Archangel3371: To be clear, are you talking about Perfect Dark Zero, or the 360 remake of the N64 game?

I haven't bought or played a new game in almost five years.

@mrbojangles25: I feel like we've been through this before, which makes it that much more frustrating, but why would anyone preorder? With the countless flops and broken launches gamers have endured, what will it take to stop fools from supporting this crap?! Reviews aren't guaranteed to line up with your personal tastes (I didn't like gow2018 or RDR2, despite the universal praise), but to not wait for some sense of the stability of the game (especially with mp games) is insane to me.

This battered housewife mentality has got to stop.

@hardwenzen: Haha, yeah I forgot about that expansion pack 😀. That thing was a bit silly, but for some reason I kinda liked it. Seems weird how much I hate the idea of mid Gen refreshes and pro consoles, but this little upgrade pack didn't bother me. Probably some cognitive dissidence on my part, but I like the idea of little add-on components, versus a whole new console. Despite the fact that the latter is probably better all around.

And I do miss when games were the full package. Great game, story, cool collectables, local co-op, local mp, etc. No bs mtx, tip of the day, loot box crap.

I think you're right about Demon's being first as well. Most of the time, if a new thing blows me away, it's hard to top that. But there are some objective differences between the two. I really like the Nexus, and how it's this weird safe zone that has your stash, store, upgrades, stage select, etc. And it can change with your actions. I also like the archway system more than the one big interconnected world. Don't get me wrong, that is cool too, but I like the feeling of starting a level, and then continuing deeper into that level. I think it scratches some Wolfenstein part of my brain. Where you keep going deeper into the castle/world. And there were some seemingly unfinished/half-assed spots in dark souls, like the random group of bull demon axe guys after going through spider lady's cave, just before lava town. There was some goofy bubble squid dude in the ruins around there too that felt weird. There's some other things, but I can't really remember. But that game was a lot more grand, so whatever. Point is, I think there are more factors than just it being my first, but you're not wrong.
