I was gonna buy this game but after getting burned by Dragon Age 2 reviews I've been waiting for some player feedback on Inquisition. I think I'll pass and wait for the Witcher 2. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. The gaming media is a joke when it comes to reviews.

I replayed one and two in the months leading up to this game, and believe me... 3 is solid. It's a little too Mass Effecty for my tastes regarding combat simplifications, but it is tactical and well worth the moolah.

I've heard it has something to do with network. The game is constantly communicating with the servers for whatever reason. If you keep your game completely detached from the internet you gain frames. Just a rumor though.

The idea is that the CPU ends up waiting a lot for network operations to complete. This means the CPU is sitting there idle for larger chunks of time (many thousands/millions of cycles) and thus nothing can get done on those cores and the overall framerate drops. It's poor optimization.

Though it's just a rumor. The whole CPU being wasted on waiting for network operations is a real issue, a lot of MMOs face it. Ever wonder why even the most beastly machines seem to lose frames in World of Warcraft or can't play Planetside 2 at 60 fps constantly? The CPU is just sitting there waiting for network operations to complete. They can't draw the scene without knowing what to draw (character models, positions in the environment, environmental variables) so the entire rendering pipeline has to be held up until the frame can be drawn. There are a lot of ways around this with modern APIs though. The issue still stands though and it could be what is affecting Unity.

I don't doubt the network rumor... if you use the companion app it's constantly connected and updates in real time, which is surely intensive.

Will wait for the PC version (and the PC to PS4 comparison thread.)

Yeah, I played my One about 2 times as much as my PS4 in the first year. I buy most multiplats on PC, so I haven't used my PS4 for gaming in a while. It's a fine machine, and I think things will turn around software-wise, but Microsoft did a good job with software for their new machine - at least in the first year.

Mine has been outstanding on PC... not one bug yet, so far as I know. Looks great too on my 780.

Really sorry to hear you are having troubles. I heard there was an issue with the DRM and SSDs, but I'm not sure.

GOTY for me.

So i just read both companies statistics for year one(using the articles on the gamespot homepage which details the statistics) What jumped out to me was the hours spent gaming. Despite falling

behind PS4 in sales and userbase, the Xbox One accounted for more hours spent gaming over The PS4 by 1 billion. We all know the PS4 is superior and the multiplats run better, why aren't people gaming more on the PS4? You would think the PS4 would easily dominate the Xbox One in the category of gaming hours.

Live is better than PSN (more people picked up Destiny for the One despite Sony's exclusivity deal, for instance) thanks largely to the superior headset, dedicated servers and higher quality chat. So there's that.

Also, if you have a gaming PC (as I do) and buy multiplats on your PC, I found myself playing more, higher quality exclusives on the One in the first year. This is debatable and subject to opinion, but I haven't used my PS4 since TLOU, and so I most likely won't use the PS4 again until The Order.

  • Better bundled headset.
  • Better 1st year exclusives (debatable, but that's the general critical consensus.)
  • Better voice chat quality.
  • Better camera.
  • Better multitasking
  • Better browser and other ancillary apps.
  • Better PC streaming functionality.
  • Better processor speed.
  • Better rumble.

Incidentally, I could make a list of all the things PS4 does better than Xbox One, too.

system seller right here pack it up TC

This is the sort of deep fantastical experience that makes me appreciate how much more compelling video games are than other mediums of entertainment. It's hard to beat a game that carries over choices from games you played several years ago. It's so good, I'll tolerate Origin. (Should be the tagline on the PC retail box.)

# The Xbox One is selling better than the 360 did, and the 360 established Microsoft in the console space, so I wouldn't rule Microsoft out if I were you. It's not going to be number 1 this time, but it's making Microsoft mountains of cash. Acting like the One is doomed because it isn't beating the PS4 in sales seems absolutist.
