The world has gone into a recession, and the US is on the brink of one. I don't think toys are high on the list of priorities for most people. Most are happy with the items they accumulated over the last couple of years.

2042 was one of the lowest quality titles I've ever played. The animations and the constant falling through the floor was pitiful. It felt like a game from a small, up and coming, indie company. Not a company trying to compete with COD.
I can't do sports games. They are just no where near where they need to be for me to enjoy them.
serious question: what do you need for them to include for you to enjoy them?
I'll be upgrading my 1070ti to a 5080 if the price is 1K or less.
We're long past the phase where devs *need* mid gen or next gen hardware.
That being said, better hardware could make it easier to "brute force" things. It should also help them prepare for actual next gen hardware and start using more ray tracing etc.
You nailed it. It's about brute forcing, rather than optimizing things. Also, profits for Sony and devs due to the increased excitement from gamers.
This will be a good enticement for people who don't have a PS5, but not enough for people who do have one.
I don't over emphasize the importance of graphics, but that is terrible.
Sony is one generation behind MS in strategy. They will be following the transition, but at a slower rate. They are a Japanese company and are more conservative.
This doesn't mean that digital is terrible. It means that Sony is.
I don't want to play a game on my computer, as I already work too much and need to get out my office chair. Nothing more relaxing than sitting in from of my projector and playing on a console. I know I can hook a PC up to it, but I don't want to fool with drivers and upgrades. I'll be upgrading my GPU to a 4080 super in the next couple of months, and will maybe give it another try, but PC gaming doesn't work for me because I need to escape my work environment.
