What are your latest gaming purchases?

I just got the wannabe Wavebird! Early impression is that it has the looks, but I don’t remember the Wavebird feeling like this. I think the Wavebird was heavier. This is also a little bit wider. But I’ll check my GC controller later. Other than that, got the PSVR 2 with a bunch of games. How about you, SW? What are your latest gaming purchases?

I bought another copy of Metroid Prime Remastered to keep sealed.

I got the dock for my steam deck and a new Xbox controller in January, but since then it's just been a few games here and there.

I recently bought some corsair vengence Pros to add another 32GB of RAM for my PC, and splurged and bought Midnight Suns on a Steam sale. I love the game so far, it seems super underappreciated.

I decided that maybe if I put a VR headset in my bedroom, I might use it a little more. But now I have to worry about my wife trying to scare me while I’m using it… 🙄The room is nice though because I have like a 12’x14’ play space. MUCH bigger than my office.

@nintendoboy16: Haven't played Sega Soccer Slam. Reminds me of Mario Strikers, but it came a few years before it. How similar is it to Mario Strikers?

A couple days ago I bought:

White OLED Switch, Splatoon OLED Switch, 2 copies of Splatoon 3, Metroid Prime Remastered, 256GB San Disk Extreme Plus Micro SD card, Afterglow Wireless controller.

Reason - my two oldest took over our other two Switch’s (they primarily play PS5, Quest 2, and Roblox on PC) so I just got all new stuff for the wife and me. Now we can have a 4 man squad on Splatoon 3.

@mesome713: It's a good one if your Into strategy games. I'm not too big on superhero stuff, but I've liked everything Fraxis has put out, and the game has a great gameplay loop.

Hardware: I was hoping to upgrade to 32gb ram from 16, but could only find one 8gb stick in stock of the type already in my PC, but it was on sale so I grabbed it. probably will wait till I can get another before installing since I believe having 3x8gb will mess up dual channel functionality so i'm better off sticking to 16 for now

I bought a Dualsense controller for my PC a few days ago, it's really nice. And I recently bought Borderlands 3: Super Deluxe Edition and Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists on Steam.

PSVR 2, charging stand for it, that VR kayak game(awesome game), and right now just trying out demos on VR. Probably gonna buy moss 1 & 2.

Hogwarts Legacy for PC.

Didn't grow up watching Harry Potter but a huge RPG fan so wanted to try it.

Got it for $45. Loving the story so far, makes me want to watch the movies.

Did a few side (fetch) quests and they are annoying so mostly focusing on main quests.

@Jag85: Not dug into it yet, picked it up because the arcade feel of these type of sports games are up my alley. Especially after I watched a streamer I like play it.

Had to pick it up on GameCube. Because the Xbox version isn't BC and the PS2 port is, of course, a very sloppy port that was only made out of obligation... like a lot of games that had to be ported (though I think SEGA had it the worst looking at Sonic and Monkey Ball).

Spoke with judaspete about it though on the Retro Games forums.

I last bought Fire Emblem: Engage (an RPG on the Switch). I wanted to buy Hogwarts Legacy, but in the Gamestop I went to, it was sold out.

picked up atomic heart over the weekend. it's still sat here still in the plastic wrapping. i am very concerned that despite half the forum being able to play it for free via gamepass, next to no one is talking about it, just a week after release. deeply concerned

Maybe don't worry what other people say and have fun with your games because you wanted the ones you bought. That's how I roll. Nobody is really talking about Octopath 2 from what I can see but yet I'm having fun with that too. I've also noticed here and on other websites that many topics have a lot of users just bitching about the newest game release for whatever reason, whether it's valid or not. So there really isn't too much care I can put into what people on these forums say.

Could happen with any controller, bro. Or refuse to work all together like a previous Xbox One controller I had.

@poe13: i hear you man. youre right, i am hoping i will have fun with it. it looked appealing but it was still a bit of a roll the dice kind of purchase. i hope it's good, maybe great, but it might not be. and gauging from the forum's collective reaction the odds feel against me lol

I don't know about that. I've had an incredible experience with mine, and currently playing Rise with a bigass drift that i just "fixed" a couple of weeks ago, but it came back instantly. At this point my drifting skills are unmatched.

@nintendoboy16: @Jag85: It's been a while since I played either game, but I think Strikers probably holds up better overall. The biggest reason being Strikers has an overhead camera, Sega Soccer Slam's is lower to the ground. It works well most of the time but can be annoying in certain situations. For example, there is a spotlight that travels around the field, and you need to be in it to perform the supercharged-turbo-power shot. So, most of the time when you are lined up for a goal, the spotlight is somewhere off camera.

That (and maybe a few problematic 90's cartoon stereotypes) aside, the game is great. Mechanically it's pretty similar to Strikers, and it has the over-the-top Xtreme-sportz energy, and cheesy 90's baditude that gamers of a certain age are totally nostalgic for these days.

I've just pre ordered WWE 2k23 I played enough of 2k22 to make it a worthwhile purchase.

@Macutchi: im working my way through it, 3 hours in right now. I really enjoy it but the problems are there that sorta drag it down. The combat can be spongey and unforgiving so you gotta react fast and dodge a lot or you get swarmed by the robots and can easily die and have to redo sections. But at the same time, i do like how fast and frantic the fighting is. It feels unique but its not gonna be revolutionary like the original Bioshock. But honestly i dont really want that. It seems like a fun thrilling romp through a crazed alternate Russia. I dont think it needs to be this extraordinary mindblower that some ppl were disappointed it wasnt.

@poe13: yeah i picked up on the spongey enemies in one of the last gameplay reveals. but yeah good to know your view man. i dont need it to be revolutionary. i'm just looking for an interesting experience. something a bit different. intriguing, challenging, worth my time basically. a "fun thrilling romp" sounds good to me

I haven't bought anything in a while to be honest. The last game I bought was Doom Eternal around Christmas. Finished that (but not the expansions) fairly recently.

My PC got upgraded late last year (5800X, 6900XT, 32GB ram). I also got a mechanical keyboard (Cooler master CK352). I'm sure it's not top notch by mech keyboard standards but its a nice upgrade from my bog standard, decade old keyboard. I also switched out the decade old mouse for a Razer Deathadder V2. There was an adjustment to the weight: i usually prefer a heavier mouse.

I got an Xbox series controller on black Friday as they were going for 40 bucks. It's grand but not the be all and end all of controller. I had a bit of trouble with getting it to work on Linux initially but it just resolved itself....odd but i'll take it.

Horizon Zero Dawn on January 12th. Played it on PS4 years ago, but always thought the game needed mouse support. That much quick aiming with an analog stick? Get outta here. I'm fifteen hours in.

Spellforce Conquest of Eo

It's smaller in scale than Gladius. But it has it's charm. Hopefully AgeOfWonders4 will be better.

Forza Horizon 5. Enough arcade to be fun, enough car for the enthusiasts, I guess. Not a big racing fan but throwing on some tunes and just roaming around is plenty cathartic.

Harry Potter, bought it on release, still playing it.

Technically Jedi Survivor, even tho it came free with my processor.

I bought a 500GB hard drive for an Xbox 360 I got for free. Gonna just fill it with all the digital freebies I got over the years.

I just got the Big 6 retrobit Sega Genesis controller (it’s fine! I prefer the regular six button design though, which retrobit also makes and is excellent) and I have Phantasy Star 4 ordered with a new save battery installed… and already cleaned. Which I appreciate since I get irritated at people selling old cartridge games who don’t bother cleaning the bloody pins! 😒
