@nod_calypse: Um, yeah I know that. I’m saying what if it actually turns out to be Metal Gear Solid 7. Suppose Sony got Konami to be ok with them and Hideo making an MGS game.

Hideo: “Here’s the first trailer for our “tactical espionage” game.” See someone sneaking in the shadows then Solid Snake comes into view and you hear David Hayter. “Kept you waiting huh.” People would lose their minds. That’s something that I can totally see Hideo doing. 😅

That's plausible, but the big issue would be getting the rights to the Metal Gear IP. I suppose Metal Gear sitting vacant at Konami isn't doing them much good, and they are licensing IP to Playstation for a silent hill revival so those sort of talks are open. I just feel like in our current leak climate that it would be hard to keep a lid on something like that.

@Naylord: Getting games at a local library isn’t even close to being a viable option to the vast majority of gamers.

He needs to validate his choices.😂

I look forward to playing this.

Fair response heh. I just get tired seeing how often people shill for subscription services of billion dollar corporations who want you to own nothing so they can milk more out of you. It's just tiring hearing "I cant wait to play this on GAMEPASS!!!" like they're some sort of walking billboard. So I'm just trying to balance that out by shilling for a terrific and free community service that I think totally trounces the paid alternatives. As far as I know, I'm the only shill for libraries here while many others like shilling for corporations round these parts.

God bless my local library; put a hold on it so I'll be playing it soon. PS+ extra and gamepass are garbage once again compared to just getting free games from the library.

1 and 2 are definitely Nintendo and From Software. 3 could be Capcom but it's a tough call.

It's about individual games not the genre being better or worse.

I regret finishing Sea of Stars. It was that perfect worse case scenario level of quality of "pretty good" where it was good enough for me to want to keep playing but bad enough to be the worst game for me to spend more than 5 hours playing it. If the game was worse, it would have been trivial to drop it early on saving me time, and if it was better I would have had a good time playing it in hindsight.

It has good pixel art but I regret playing it. It has that worst case scenario level of quality: where it's just good enough to keep me going but bad enough where I reflect on the experience and realize it was a waste of time. If it was worse, it would have been easy to drop it, and if it was better I would have liked it!

It's crazy that this game gets so much love and Octopath Traveller 2 gets overlooked.

It depends on the game. Many I will discard early on when I realize I won't love it. Most I usually stop playing after beating it; some if I love it I push further, and depending on how engaging I find it I can sometimes get into a fervor of just getting every last morsel. Like The Witness was a game I wasn't expecting to want to 100% but even the environmental puzzles I had to get every last one because that game just rocked my core so deeply with its quality.

Nah, for games I don't want to own I can always just borrow them from my local library. Way better value than gamepass; instead of some games for a subscription cost its nearly all games for free. I've got Spider-Man 2 waiting on hold for me and I finished Super Mario Wonder earlier all for free from my local library.

They have every movie on blu ray so it trashes netflix as well.

I’m sure that’s their goal. But look at their current results. Xbox is spending billions and billions for 1%-3% growth in revenue YOY. PlayStation is topping that through conventional means. PlayStation is increasing its marketshare lead and has better margins as well. Xbox has made their software and services available to more than a hundred million additional consumers who don’t need to buy anything but a subscription. And their growth has been minimal. The market trends aren’t in Xbox’s favor.

Potential is nothing without results. Xbox has been operating on potential for long enough.

This is the mindset that I was referencing with my post.

Change is difficult, and people had the EXACT same argument when Netflix started sending out DVDs for free, said the same thing when they shifted to all digital.

It took them 6 years and billions in losses to reach ONE million subscribers. It wasnt until 2007 when they went to streaming (which people said would kill the company) and in 2009 when they started producing original content did Netflix really take off.

Now, they have 248m paid subscribers.

Xbox is on a faster trajectory than Netflix and seems that they have learned the lessons of their mistakes.

MS is trying to be the Netflix of gaming and they are really investing in that as you mentioned in your post. Not everyone will understand, not everyone will like it. People are used to the traditional gaming console market and cant understand how the math works outside of that.

Truth is, gaming has been shifting for a decade (yes, im old). The traditional (Sony) model isnt sustainable, which is why they are investing in PC and Live Service games. Sure, they are selling consoles 1.7x-2x that of MS, but their REVENUE is shrinking. They make awesome games, but they also invest 200m to make those games amazing. That isnt sustainable, even if they sell 10m units. Why? Time. Those games take 5yrs to make and dont come out regularly enough to sustain the business. They are/were relying (their own words) on COD and other 3rd party revenues (paid exclusives) to subsidize their first party. They wont have all of that now that MS owns Activision.

Where are they going to get the money to subsidize the first party? More low cost remakes? Remasters? Lower game budgets? More GaaS games?

Money has to come from somewhere.

Do i like what MS is doing? No because I dont like my games tied to a subscription. But I seem to be in the minority as people keep subscribing to PSN and Game Pass and buying digital.

They market is changing, gamers just live in their own bubbles and havent caught up yet

**** that's depressing but well argued.
