AI is a tool, not a replacement for anything. Seems like a pretty obvious lesson at this point, but for some reason the folks in charge don't seem to want to use it as it should be used, and we keep running across constant examples of why.
Yet another sign of the end-game, of late-stage capitalism. Time to slowly but surely adopt more socialist policies, more anti-corporate and pro-worker/consumer laws.
@BLKCrystilMage: Yes and yet there were still visitors; merchants, explorers, missionaries, etc.
My point was that there were exceptions, and that people should just swallow whatever is preventing them from buying into this (bigotry, refusal to accept it as an artistic choice, etc) and get over it.
One way to get over it is to give yourself an "out" and say "Well it wasn't totally unheard of for Japan to have visitors, why not _______".
I mean, the whole premise of Shogun (the novel) is you have this white Englishman, a "barbarian" by Japanese standards of the time, coming to Japan uninvited and making friends and enemies and eventually becoming such a dear friend of a leader he is made a samurai. Sound far-fetched? Sure it is. But no more far-fetched than a black man I guess. What's the difference here?
I mean, what's the alternative? You just get angry for no reason at all? Post on the internet and make yourself look bad? Is your outrage really more important than being at peace?
Would be neat to see them slingshot this closure into a game development studio and make some cool RPG's or platformers. They have many of the assets already and clearly some good talent.
lol everyone is losing their minds haha, you people need to chill.
There were Spaniards, Portuguese, English in Japan for a long time. Would make sense for there to be a black person or two as well.
In either case, relax a bit, eh?
Still though, it's an interesting take. Modern Japan tends to not look favorably on dark-skinned people (just look at how they treat the Okinawans), I wonder if that has changed in the last few hundred years.
@mogan: They really are hard to watch and it is 100% the direction in my opinion. I freaking LOOOOOOOOOVE Star Wars, I consider it part of "American mythology" at this point like some people do with Marvel and DC comics and so forth...and I struggle to watch those movies. I'd rather watch the later sequels (7-9) than the prequels (1-3) and those were a mess too.
With the exception of young Anakin, the cast was a lot of really great seasoned and young actors and they just came off terrible. I don't know how you manage to do that unless the director/boss is terrible.
I feel like every scene they were like "OK that was decent, should we do another take?" and George Lucas was like "nah it's fine, special effects will make up for it".
To be clear, I really appreciate George Lucas as a creative and for giving us Star Wars. For translating the traditional Arthurian tale of knights and magic and legends into a sci-fantasy setting. For having a vision that quite literally stretched across decades and led to a lot of excellent (or, if not excellent, fun and entertaining) movies, shows, books, comics, and more. I just don't think he should be behind the camera. Ever.
Ah well, at least it led to the Filoni'verse and all that animated and live-action content.
Well, as long as it's Arkane Austin and not Arkane as a whole. Swear to god though Arkane is one of my favorite developers, I really hope this doesn't mean more than just a satellite closing down.
