A shame it wasn't more of them in the helicopter...

Yes, yes, yes...I know we shouldn't wish death on people and we should be respectful and classy and such...to people. But these aren't people, they're monsters.

@nintendoboy16: I imagine countries like Iran have power structures that make the death of a president kind of irrelevant. I might be wrong.

Probably more like opportunistic coups. Someone will take power, and they'll either make excuses to support them or there will be a fight. But yeah I guess it is a structure of kinds.

Then again I am probably not giving Iran enough credit; they're a legitimate power with a structured government, so you're probably right.

I do not expect an honest election to occur, however.

-Vice President Mohamed Mokhber is acting president in the wake of Raisi's death.

-Ali Bagheri Kani is acting foreign minister.

Don't know much about either of these folks. A quick Google search shows that:

  • Mokhber
    • Responsible for supplying Russia with drones during their invasion of Ukraine.
    • Was a medic in the army.
    • CEO of a telecommunications company
  • Kani
    • Lead negotiator in the 2023 prisoner exchange between US and Iran
    • Seems like a "nepo baby" as he is the son and nephew of two other leaders in Iranian politics.
    • Has been serving in Iranian politics since 1990 and, as he is only 56 years old, was basically 20 years old when he got into politics. Hmmmm....

@uninspiredcup: OMG I looooooooooooove those "villagers react..." videos, they're so wholesome.

Most of the time the reaction videos suck because it's usually some "influencer" but the villagers are just like "Woh what's this? That's totally new to me!"

How are there 75 people who want to be around that loser?

Well it's a demented cult.

Also lol this idiot was bragging about dodging it a day earlier,

I really hope this isn't fake.

Who is that? I want to say Buzz Aldrin but not sure.

It looks real, I mean who knows these days right? But I don't see any if the usual AI oddities.

Picture this: It's 2040, and it's time to make a film about the attempt to steal the 2020 election.

Do you play up Rudy hiding from his indictment as a goofy misadventure where he's in a party hat and the sherriffs yell "surprise!"; or do you show it in Godfather-style third act montage where each of the co-conspirators get their come-uppance?

Is it a black comedy or a crime drama? I'm not sure anymore.

Definitely a black comedy. It's one of those "it's funny because it's true" things then the darkness creeps in "oh god it's funny because it actually happened that's not funny wait is it?"

I wonder if Larry David will be alive in 2040? He'd be good in the role of Rudy.

Investing an entire production line, marketing campaign, and more into a current-gen handheld that only plays last-gen games seems misguided at best.

It also seems very, very lazy and low-effort. It's like they did the Portal thing and it sold well and Sony is like "Hmmm maybe there's something we can do with this, but we don't want to work very hard. How can we exploit our customer base?" and, voila...outdated-out-the-gate portable gaming console.

@WitIsWisdom said:

Why would they release a handheld that could only run PS4 games though? There are plenty of handheld options these days that can run just about anything... that wouldn't make much sense at all.

Right? Very curious.

I liked some of the total war games. But honestly prefer more traditional base building RTS. Plus Star Wars sucks ass now

Star Wars movies suck now. Well actually they've been bad since the prequels to be frank. Rogue One was one exception.

Everything else--the animated series, the live-action series (well, most of them), and the comics that have come out ("Doctor Aphra" and "Vader" comic especially)--have been pretty damn good. Some haven't been great, mind you, but good enough.

I agree though, would love to see a new Star Wars RTS game like Company of Heroes or Command and Conquer. Hell, even a Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander style RTS would be great.

I thought the prequels sucked when they came out. Then I saw how bad star wars could get.. like the prequels in retrospect. Seen many people give the nod to rouge one as the example of the "good recent one". Would watch phantom menace over it any day. To each thier own, but thought rouge one was a snooze fest.

Would find a base building star wars RTS with different factions interesting. But don't even really want the star wars part, I just want more base building RTS like C&C lol. Honestly just want a legit new Dawn of war game thats traditional base building like the first one. A supreme commander like rts would work well with star wars. It fits.

Yeah and sadly the new Homeworld 3 is apparently a real crappy game, which is disappointing as it's one of my all-time favorite franchises. So there goes any interest in RTS's I have at the moment. I tried the Company of Heroes 3 free weekend last week and that game is as bad as people made it out to be.

Ah well, at least TBS/4X/grand strategy games are alive and kicking at the moment. Back to Stellaris...

@last_lap: the workers get paid either way...so what exactly is your point? Seems you have a hate boner for EA. Though, I agree they do deserve it for milking their shitty franchises.

End of the day, things don't matter. People are people. The same people who are working at the small publisher would love to work at EA and double their income. In fact many of the workers at EA cut their teeth as indie developers. So if it's all the same gamepass or bust.

Yes the workers get paid but it's nice to see them retain jobs and actually have a career instead of hopping from place to place after every project. I don't know, maybe they like that lifestyle or are used to it. Still, I've been at the same job for 10+ years and I like the consistency.

I feel like this is a bad argument to makes, i.e. "developer good, publisher bad", as it is not really relevant to this specific game.

The game received mediocre reviews and probably worse sales, and no doubt using the big bad Unreal Engine 5 put them in the hole for quite a bit of cash and they didn't make their money back with initial sales.

Playing it on Game Pass doesn't alter the fate of the studio or the money they receive because anyone that wanted to buy the game by this point probably would have bought the game already.

If they want to make some money, put it on Steam for 20-30 bucks on sale. Otherwise I would chalk this game up as a financial and critical failure.

Also their first mistake was making a bargain with EA to begin with; it's difficult for me to feel bad for a "would-be indie studio" that sells their soul to the devil. This game arguably could have been great if they worked on it on their own or signed with a small-scale publisher like Coffee Stain or Devolver Digital, but they went with EA.

You see this from time to time: "new studio full of industry veterans want to make independent AAA game" and you just have to roll your eyes when they make that claim and then sign with a major publisher. First off, the notion of a "AAA independent game" is an oxymoron, and on top of that signing with a major publisher just completely negates that. I don't care if you have "indie spirit" lol.

@mrbojangles25: Prior to the prequels it was gaming that was keeping it going.

I don't really like any of the "modern games". Mid at best. Don't care about Ubislop.

This could be good. Assuming they don't get big bellies with dollar signs.

It may be the first Total War game where it takes place in space as well. It also may be the first (proper) console entry.

Yeah, curious how they will address the space concept. Maybe like they did with Empire: Total War, with the multiple continents?

Oh it's coming to console? Hmmm that sort of makes me feel a bit iffy about it to be honest. Then again they've ported some older strategy games--even the incredibly complex Stellaris--to console, so I suppose it could be done.

Total War is really demanding on hardware though by the mid-game, we shall see if consoles can handle it. Those turns can really stress your computer sometimes haha.

Tell me you're making a cash grab without telling me you're making a cash grab...
