The Good:
I've had my 512 gig model for almost 2 weeks now. The thing is a little powerhouse, I was actually just playing doom 2016 (the good new doom game) completely maxed out and it was running locked at 30 fps on vulkan.
The button layout is fantastic for 2d games like ori or bloodstained, and good for 3d games that you intend to use the thumbsticks instead of the trackpads for.
The Bad:
The paddles and trackpad positioning leave something to be desired. Anytime I want to use the right trackpad to aim in a fps I have to grip the deck in what feels like a stretched and unnatural way, same with trying to use the buttons on the back of the unit.
Basically trying to use the trackpads along with the triggers/bumpers in any game is an ergonomic nightmare, worse than the og "duke" xbox controller.
It feels like they tried to cram too many buttons on it, instead they should have figured out better positioning for the trackpads so they didn't feel so awkward to use.
Valve has 2 venders using 2 different fan designs for the steam deck, with one fan being substantially louder. Luckily I got the quiet one, but I do feel bad for those that lost the hardware lottery and got the jet engine.
Ya why tf would you turn off vsync? Of course battery life is going to be shit if you do that.
I am interesting in hearing what the government of ontario said when they brought that application to the Superior Court of Justice. Seriously if the court order holds I really don't know how feasible converting their bitcoin funds to Canadian cash is especially if they are using a Bitcoin ATM. They must have a few hundred thousand in bitcoin money already.
The argument is the protest is a criminal offence, which would be interesting to see proven, given that Canadians can peaceably assemble, and it would need to be argued in a court of law that this isn't peaceable.
Why would a Bitcoin ATM be a thing? People can transfer and convert crypto to wallets fairly easily.
I don't think any of the people transferring/withdrawing the money are going to use a Bitcoin ATM machine but converting any of that money to canadian dollars is still going to cost money every single time they try to convert the money unless they stumble upon a site that has a 0% fee for converting the bitcoin to Canadian dollars.
In other news looks like the Ontario government will declare a state of emergency tomorrow.
They screwed up big blocking the border roads, they're costing huge amounts of money for the U.S. and now the U.S. government is pressuring Canada to use force.
I see they've gone the Chernobyl route of using British accents to portray Russians for....some reason.
Russian vo with subtitles sounds much better.
It's sold out through the end of the year, it's already a success.
Ray tracing is such a performance hog that for me it's a non-starter as a feature for at least another card cycle or two.
It would compete a lot better if it would actually release.
Now do it for the stock market.
