Why is Crysis winning? It was pretty much entirely falling trees and shacks :? Bad Company had the most impressive looking and practical destructability overall. It even had teh trees :)

http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/02/27/killzone-2-budget-balloons-says-rumour/ Best i could find quickly. I doubt it'll turn a profit, even if it does really well as far as PS3 games go. As awesome as the result is, Sony probably aren't going to fund games like this again. And seeing what Epic achieved with a quater of that, I doubt the Xbox is the problem when it comes to games like this. Hell, Gears 2 is a testament to that.

The myth that PS3 games (KZ2 in general) don't sell well or turn a profit should die right now. A large portion of the time and resources put into KZ2's development were poured into the creation of the new engine (like other big games). The development budget is around 40 million and the cycle was 4 years. Identical to other AAA games this, and last generation: ---------- Project Estimated Cost & Time Final Fantasy VII- 30 million USD/ 3 years dev time Final Fantasy X- 32 million USD/ 2 years dev time Final Fantasy XII- 52.3 million USD/ 5 years dev time Final Fantasy XI (Online + PlayOnline Network System)- 17-25 million USD Halo 3- 30 million USD (60 million including marketing)/ 3 years dev time Gears of War- 10 million USD (40+ million including U3 Engine & outsourced development fees)/ 4 years dev time Metal Gear Solid 4- 45 million USD/ 4 years dev time Grand Theft Auto IV- 100 million USD (rumored)/ 4 years dev time ---------- The point is: games of this caliber take time and resources, it's not out of the ordinary. Sony could easily turn a profit if the game sells in the millions. Something that is very probable. It just won't turn in a greater profit as say, Halo 3. Also, Gears 2 had an established foundation in its proprietary engine. It was the second installment of the franchise. The next Killzone game will be a "testament" to that as well. Just like Guerrilla Games (and other devs) say.

It'll certainly sell well, but games like MGS4 have only just hit 1 million sales in the US. It wasn't a very marketable game considering the extensive story, but games like Halo and GTA were well established to practically print money. When the arguably best game on the PS3 (MGS4) hits 1 million US sales after this long, it's hard to have faith with Killzone 2 selling as many as it's not as established a franchise and the best selling PS3 games certainly haven't been as successful as some of the 360's.

Still, it's pretty easy to market- teh graphics and teh shooting is all you really need to get across. Gears of War was a huge success with little advertised game content as well, but I'm not sure whether it was the product of hype or word-of-mouth. I think Epic knew that they would make a lot of money with UE3 alone, so a $10m budget would be likely to turn a profit with the right marketing. Still, I'm not sure Killzone 2's engine could be utilised as effectively. It'd only be utilised on the PS3 and probably isn't as accessable for developers as UE3. They'll have to face the cost of the engine and the game, unlike Epic who pretty much faced the costs seperately.

Heres a nice quote I found from killzone 2's review in OPM.

"If this is what developers can do when they don't have to think about about the Xbox as well then lets never go back to dual platform."

...and how much money has been thrown at KZ2? I remember it being around $40 million a good while ago. You should also take anything by any official magazine with a pinch of salt.

Can you link us to that info?

All in game and aearly build, you guys are just haters, the lemmings are haters and even cows are haters of the console that the suposed defend, i'm very ashame of cows and i was one too, but seiing how they just not support their games and always put doubts, they are the primary reason why LBP and a few othergames do not do great on lounch, thankfully all ps3 exclusives have legs and almost all excluding lair and maybe Haze, (surprizing this game sold well) all other games are hits.Cows just enjoy your games, leemings hype their games and are always positive obout the game even if the game is a flop.

fjburgos
So.....people should be really bad fanboys instead of just fanboys? And I don't think Haze sold well......it's rrp was slashed after 3 weeks on the shelf.

Anyone who actually loses weight or gains muscle from using Wii Fit obviously does zero physical activity and lives on twinkies :)
