Hey there,

Can I ask for an example? Just want to be sure we're looking at a download that you're having an issue with.

Will try to see what's going on!

Looking into this to see if I can replicate. Will let you know what's going on as I find things out for myself or find our more info from someone else.

First, awesome feedback!

Second, third time trying this response...let's hope I dont' get boneheaded again and take myself off this page by accident

Anyhow, this is a case where the HD download provided is simply the original source file given to use by the publisher/developer. When we get official assets and if they are not exclusive, we try to offer the original source if it's using a common codec.

HD QuicKTime isn't even one of our typical formats! Though I'm guessing it's using the H.264 codec within it (much like our .mp4 files, do)....still downloading the file, so I'm not sure!

With that, 16mbps is obviously a high bitrate to download, no matter the format. A situation where we should have prob also re-encoded to our typical WMVHD spec and also offered that as a download. Something we'll work on getting resolved.

A note about H.264. We LOVE H.264. Why we use it for our hi-res downloads. But he issue with it when it comes to HD encoding is that it takes an enourmous amount of time to encode compared to WMV HD. Then there's the big issue of that the common H.264 player (whether using the .mov or .mp4 or other variant extension) on PCs is QuickTime player. QuickTime Player for PC is HORRIBLY optimized for PCs and has a difficult time running HD H.264 files, especially in full screen. Files that play buttery smooth using Quickttme on Mac Macs will play with a lot of stuttering and other issues using QT on PCs. Unless you have a high-end machine. But we can't base our general specs on people having super high-end machines, because it shuts out most of the audience! Yes, if you ahve Flip4Mac installed on Macs (a commong QuickTime extension for Mac users), it has zero issues playing WMVHD files. We have to go with the scenario that best works for msot people.

Also, the variant of the H.264 codec we use can encode much faster and with better quality (using specific settings) than what QuickTime player can output....the issue is larger than that...what I explained before.

Now a response about our WMVHD specs. Our WMVHD spec is 7+ MBPS...we want to offer our viewers ultimate quality viewing if we can. We have standard settings that we use internally that works for games of all genres and speeds....just so we are able to pump out as many movies as fast as we can and not have to worry about quality. 7mbps is a safe bet for 98% of things encode from our experience. To give comparison, X360 Marketplace specs call for 6mbps WMV HD files, but using 2-pass VBR. We use 1-pass CBR to decrease encoding time.....we could lower the bitrate a bit an maintain quality with other settings, but it would basically double our encoding time.

Now with all this, we are in the middle of deciding on changes, if any, that may be made. And some major stuff is coming in the future...stuff that I personally believe you'll love!

I just want to be open here w/o going overboard...in the end, we are fans of all this video just like you are and will do what we can as long as it's fitting for our audience!

Stay tuned! A lot of exciting things regarding GameSpot video are coming. I cannot wait! And it's hard to get me exicted!

body for life

I lost 80lb on it and abused it. I didn't work out after the first few weeks...just did a lot of walking (mainly from home --> bus ... bus --> work....and the same on the way back). Key is to have non-processed carbs (so eat whole wheat bread, rice, noodles, etc...) as processed carbs, like white bread or white rice, turns into sugar once it's in your body....

I hate 5-6 meals a day, smaller meals but total food intake actually was a bit more than I had before. Your body burns fat 30% more efficientially (as your metabolism is raised) in short periods after you eat...so you are eating a bunch of small meals to keep your metabolism raised.

Other than that, lot of chicken breasts, low-fat or fat free sandwich meat, hotdogs, etc...lots of other low-fat/low-cal snacks....and in about 9 months I lost 80lbs.

Gained some of it back over time, but am back to within 10lb of where I was then by just making sure I don't eat out too much. Eating regular ole food.
