Clearly they wanted users to play with a wider TV that maintains the image height. Oh wait, ultra wide TVs are not made anymore. Guess you're supposed to play with a projector. Oh wait, they engineered their sound for headphones (binaural recording) and made the surround for speakers sound like shit (and few people sit in front of a projection screen with headphones).

Being sarcastic. Know the forced black bars are confused film envy and a dumb way to improve performance.

I tried playing the first game with a mod that opened the letterboxed picture up, but it created a fisheye effect because of where she stands and how the camera is anchored.

Just occurred to me that Cup's precious Tomb Raider is fucked up now in part because of Arkham Asylum. The button prompt to do flashy stealth animation with cinematic cam, the idiot challenges that appear at the top of your screen ("Kill three enemies completed."), sixth sense revealing secrets and X-ray, it's all there.

That was a good video. Didn't realize things were quite so dire for them because I lost interest years and years ago.

Axel's high kick is badass, and I only learned about it today, after wondering if that downward attack I discovered after these few years also applied in reverse, when jumping straight up, pressing up and attack. Checked to see if it's also in Streets of Rage 4, and sure enough. A little disappointed that Blaze doesn't have an upward attack in either game. Only the downward one.

Since you only just learnt the high kick in Streets of Rage 2, did you know about the back elbow or how to land on your feet when thrown by the enemy?

Oh, and you should always play on Mania.

Yes, I use the rear attack. No, did not know that you can land on your feet. Have a hard enough time playing on standard. 4 is a different story, easier game.

The Batman

Couldn't follow large part of the rather boring story that thought it had to be so detective instead of adventure, but concept is actually idiotic. Sick of the idealists who want to destroy Gotham City, every single movie, because anything less might be considered campy. Riddler even has followers who were in the orphanage with him and are willing to fully commit for him, BULLSHIT. You'd think we'd see people committing political violence in this country for the things people rightfully hate the government for, but no, that's not how it works, yet in gritty Batman world Riddler is part of a selfless fucking team fighting for vengeance, for NOTHING. The gimp can't just want money. Catwoman shit portrayal too, with lame daddy issues and revenge for her friend instead of focus on stealing. Mayor's goodness was embarrassing, more bullshit. Bruce Wayne and Batman too much alike, because movie has to dwell in melancholy like the licensed song from that band I can't listen to.

Couple of rubber CG fights or parts of fights, as well as vehicles, making the practicals and even clunky fighting in Nolan's movies look more impressive.

Really don't care for the samurai motif of his suit. How are his contact lens cameras powered? Bullshit.

The meme pics about Batman movies getting darker and darker, that's not my problem with the cinematography here. I wish it actually were darker, that it used a fuller range instead of having these elevated greys all over.

Stop with the remakes. Reboot Dino Crisis. Jurassic World trilogy success should have been a wake up call.

A remake of DC1 I could get behind. Not sure I trust Capcom with a reboot.

Remake:

  1. Code Veronica
  2. DC1

**** everything else.

If the Dino Crisis remake still took place entirely in a facility and still had the same weak story, then no thanks. When I say reboot, I mean Regina's first mission again and the dinosaurs pulled through the time portal for the first time again, but original. Maybe have her go back 65 million years in the final chapter. But, yeah, I have no confidence in Capcom actually making a good game of it. Would be extremely linear and tick off all the usual boxes. The high production cost of video games ruined everything, bringing us to this point of nothing but remakes/remasters.

Why? Gimme Code Veronica and leave the RE1/0 remake alone.

Gamers don't want to learn anymore.

Good post:

Can't wait to use the shield key on the shield door with modern perspective. "Modern" is a synonym for "good" and "better". It's what Capcom always envisioned but the technology wasn't there. Will be awesomesauce for people who never played RE1 before, as they don't have to learn an outdated control system. Learning things that are different from what you are used to is bs, it's unnecessary busywork. People already have to learn things at their job at the Amazon warehouse, they just want to relax after work with a chill game and some pizza rolls.

Knife in the Water (1962)

Married couple pick up a young hitchhiker on the road; the husband, an experienced yachtsman, pretty masculine, invites him on his boat. Title refers to the boy being out of his element on the water. The husband makes fun of him for it. Scored with mellow jazz. I read that it was a thriller beforehand, and... Actually, have to stop. Can't give it away. But it's different. The way it plays on expectation. The most mundane Roman Polanski movie I ever watched, but one of the better ones in my opinion. His first movie, made in Poland.
