AMD says otherwise:

100.6 million > 87 million

That is very interesting. I wonder what the new narrative is going to be.🤔

"15 million of those are RROD replacements" - Cow S. Areus

I heard 100 million of them were PROD replacements.😉

Over 15 million actually. It had a 54% failure rate.

That's why sales of consoles and chips produced are not the same and it's why you can't find a single source that says the 360 sold more units then the PS3.

Microsoft replaced my 360 after two years with no charge.

It cost Microsoft 1.15 billion dollars 🤣

It wasn't exactly an isolated incident. Regardless I can't find a single source that says the 360 beat the PS3.

If cost got that high, parts would need to be factored in.

54% failure rate with 15 million but 100 million Xbox 360 GPUs sold. Can you help me with that math?🤔

I would expect not every failure required a new GPU regardless I can't find a single source that 100 million Xbox 360's were sold. More like 84 million.

No, it just means chip sales are not one to one with console sales. Especially when that console had the highest failure rate in history and cost Microsoft 1.15 billion dollars.

I don't think the AMD numbers are wrong but, they do contain discrepancies.

The PS4 numbers in particular don't match up with Sony's own numbers. AMDs are several million units larger.

The Xbox 360 numbers are hard to take at face value when MS announced it had sold 84M units at E3 2014. That suggests they sold 12.2M units in ~18 months leading up to the end of 2015 and, well over 15.2M units *post* Xbox One. I find that extremely hard to believe considering that would have rivaled the Xbox One during the exact same time period. Also, the 360 was barely on shelves once the Xbox One dropped much like the PS3 w/ PS4. The math doesn't check out.

So again, there are absolutely discrepancies in AMDs numbers.

----

There's also one more thing ... 360 era Xbox would have 100% told us if they outsold the PS3 at the end of the day.

They never did.

Damn this thread really got off the rails. We’re talking about PS3/Xbox 360 sales figures. Cows that mad about the light 2024 schedule huh?

Microsoft and, Sony know how many consoles they sold.

Your argument could only hold water if we knew how many GPUs NVIDIA shipped for PS3 because, otherwise, we're looking at different metrics from different sources.

Your argument is bunk. Own up to it.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/682851/installed-base-of-microsoft-game-consoles/

"The estimated installed base of Microsoft game consoles from 2012 to 2019 shows a saturation limit to Xbox 360 at around 100 million units. In 2019, the installed base of Microsoft Xbox 360 was estimated to remain at 100.6 million units."

That is two sources now. AMD directly and Statistica. Now, please, go and try to be a better cow. You are letting your fellow herd down.

It cost Microsoft 1.15 billion dollars to fix the " red ring of death". So yes I'd say a large portion of them were used for replacement consoles.

That would explain why I can't find a single source that has 360 sales at 100 million.

That is counting the Xbox platform including the Xbox 1

I'm using your same source. The 360 as of 2023 was at 85 million.

First released in November 2005 as a successor to the original Xbox, the Xbox 360 is a video game console produced by Microsoft. As of September 2023, it had sold 85.7 million units across the world, including over 47 million units in North America.

So in that situation you would take the more recent data. 2023 is later then 2019. Your data factors in units used which could feature refurbished units. These are not counted in sales.

And another one

Also, the data you presented isn't from AMD as you suggest. It's from John Peddie Research.

Also, the data you presented isn't from AMD as you suggest. It's from John Peddie Research.

Report: https://www.jonpeddie.com/images/uploads/The_Balance_of_Power_in_Gaming_2019_-_V8.pdf

You're peddling misinformation.

Yup, and read the PDF. He obtained the information directly from AMD for his research paper. Can I embarrass you in an additional fashion?

@nnoyinghusband: What's the number of releases you want? I'll wait.

Once you tell me we can hold all 3 accountable.

You know all of this is because of how harsh the cows were to Xbox in 2022 right?

They were the ones acting like a game should drop every month.

Also, you said "Forza was on the 20th game". No, it's on the 8th. FH games are completely different.

Then you listed Ratchet and Clank. How many Ratchet and Clank games have there been? Like 17 games more or less.

What was your point? It's not like they bang out FM games anymore. The last one was in 2017.

@HalcyonScarlet: My point is all of that shit is crap and they know it, and they will just flip the script to feed their narrative. Like Kvally is doing now trying to prove the 360 sold over 100 million units, which if it DID WE WOULD HAVE A SOURCE FROM MS themselves about it since you know that would be kinda a big deal.

And for fucks sake, there's already Rumors Wolverine could make a 2024 release, I don't think we exactly know what's going to be released in 2024 yet.

He got his AMD hardware data from AMD, which is why AMD commissioned this report. He was responsible to research data outside of AMD for the remainder of his report. AMD is not responsible for external data.

@kvallyx: Dude I would be able to stand you more if you didn't try to pass off misinformation and data manipulation.

Like dude it's not cool. Stop. Like for real stop. Not fucking cool.

If you can provide a source from MS that the 360 sold over 100 million units that's one thing, but you can't, because if the 360 actually sold that much MS would have said so because that's a huge deal.

If you can provide a source from MS that the 360 sold less than 100 million, we are all ears.

It is funny to me that people are in here saying "but it is still outselling the Series". Nobody should be wanting the PS5 to be outselling the Series when Sony is on cruise control and MS is making moves to improve their business. We should want MS to start pushing Sony to try harder. I hope the Series starts outselling the PS5 just so it lights a fire under Sony and start announcing some upcoming games and stop doing things which are anti-consumer. Sony has always been amazing at putting out great games, but it seems like they've shifted focus here recently. I would rather have a Jak & Daxter with decent graphics and awesome gameplay than another Last of Us or Horizon game.

I enjoy my PS5, but it is my least played console at the moment. A lot of that is due to Gamepass which I find a much better deal than PS+ which I cancelled in October for the first time since they launched the service on the PS3 due to the substantial price increase with no added benefit and worse games being added monthly.

The PS5 sells due to hype, not merit. Yes, it has some exclusive games, but almost all of them are also available on the PS4. Like I said, it sells due to hype by just being the new PS console. Most of my friends wanted one before they even knew what it was and as a gamer, so did I. I have owned every PS console on launch, and the PS5 is the worst of the PS consoles at this point in the consoles lifecycle.

At least with MS, I know what they have in the works and will be able to day 1 their games with Gamepass.

I am sure I will be called a lemming even though I support any game company offering me what I see as good games. Even though I own more games on my PS1/2/3/4/5 than I do on any other platform including PC. I am a Sony fan, but I am wholly unimpressed with their vision at the moment. I hope it is temporary, but I have never seen them be this silent before.

2024 will be same as 2023 - nothing until Insomniac Games bring out a game.

Which will be good but soon forgotten.
